Marcus H. Sachs, P.E.

 

Marcus Sachs serves as Executive Director of Government Affairs for National Security Policy at Verizon in Washington, D.C.  Mr. Sachs holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from James Madison University, a Master of Science in Science and Technology Commercialization from the University of Texas, and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Policy at George Mason University.

Mr. Sachs' professional experience includes a 20 year military career as an officer in the United States Army, followed by two years of federal civilian service as a Presidential appointee at the White House and as an initial member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and four years as a consultant and contractor to the federal government. Mr. Sachs volunteers as the director of the SANS Internet Storm Center, serves on several industry advisory boards, and is frequently quoted by the media as a cyber security expert.

Johannes Ullrich, Ph.D.

 

As Chief Research Officer for the SANS Institute, Johannes is currently responsible for the SANS Internet Storm Center (ISC) and the GIAC Gold program.  He founded DShield.org in 2000, which is now the data collection engine behind the ISC. His work with the ISC has been widely recognized, and in 2004, Network World named him one of the 50 most powerful people in the networking industry.  Prior to working for SANS, Johannes worked as a lead support engineer for a web development company and as a research physicist.  Johannes holds a Ph.D. in Physics from SUNY Albany.

 

Dean Weber

 

Currently CTO of Applied Identity, Mr. Weber brings with him more than 30 years of information security experience. Most recently, Weber was Chief Security Architect at Teros, the leading application security gateway manufacturer. Teros was acquired by Citrix. He also spent several years as Security Architect at TruSecure/ICSA Labs (now Verizon Business Security Solutions). Prior to TruSecure, Weber spent many years as co-founder and technical VP for a large security integration firm, specializing in secure architectural design and deployment for Fortune 500 companies and government agencies. He is a frequent speaker at information security events such as InfoWorld, ITEC, InfoSec Europe, Infragard, Secret Service Security Roundtable, ISSA, and various focus engagements.

 

Phillip Porras

 

Mr. Porras is a Program Director of systems security research in the Computer Science Laboratory at SRI International, and has been a Principal Investigator for many research projects sponsored by DARPA, DoD, NSF, NSA, and others.  Currently, he is a Principal Investigator in a multi-organization NSF research project, entitled "Logic and Data Flow Extraction for Live and Informed Malware Execution."   He is also the Principal Investigator of a large ARO-sponsored research program entitled Cyber-TA, which is developing new techniques to gather and analyze larges-scale malware threat intelligence across the Internet.  Mr. Porras has been an active researcher, publishing and conducting technology development in botnet and intrusion detection, alarm correlation, malware analysis, active networks, and wireless security.  He holds six U.S. patents, and has been awarded Best Paper honors in 1995 and 1999.
